We have introduced zipcode system for the first time in Mongolia. The implementing agency is the Communications Regulatory Committee, Government agency of Mongolia.
Postal zipcode
 “Postal zipcode” was approved by the order No.101 of Minister, Ministry of Road, Transport and Tourism dated on 29 June 2007, with a view to implement “E-Mongolia” program reflected in the operational program and platform of the Government of Mongolia, further, within framework of the implementation of the objectives such as “Establishment of united information system through the uniform postal zipcode in Mongolia”, “Shift to the postal regional structure through the establishment of official address for streets, office buildings and households”, and “Improving the structure of the postal delivery service at all levels”.
In developing such zipcode, the following principles such as clear to understand, easy to use, meet with code standard of Mongolian administration units, the code must be based on the code of the customer location, make postal technology work easier, consider urban development and perspectives, have enough reserves to make further coordination on the codes, have been followed.
Advantages of postal zipcode than the previous postal indexes:
- Be in line with the address guideline issued by the mayor.
- Zipcode for that particular region or section shall not be changed due to future changes as per master plan of the city.
- Be in line with administrative codes or indexes of Mongolia.
- No changes shall be made if administrative unit of Mongolia changes or easy to change if necessary due to enough code reserves to coordinate code changes.
- Clear to understand and easy to use.
- Possible to define geographic location of the particular address to a certain extent.
Using zip code shall enable the following benefits even though the recipient name is written by hand:
- If zipcode is right, then your mail or parcel shall reach to the recipient without delay even if the address is written with errors
- Zipcode systems is already introduced into the technology for sorting out mails, therefore, it is easy to sort out mails by electron or automated machines and enables fast delivery of the mails to the recipients.
- It is easy to get social insurance, tax and banking services if you have right zipcode for your address.
Introduction of the Zip Code, shall enable opportunities for establishment of the united address system, fast delivery postal services, save money, and expansion as well as improvement of the below mentioned public services.
